SEED THOUGHT

Just as soon as we know ourselves to be souls, and find that we are capable of focussing our consciousness or sense of awareness in any form or on any plane at will, or in any direction within the form of God, we shall no longer know death.

KEYNOTE: The results of dissolution are beneficent in effect. Ponder on this beneficent activity and on the beauty of the divine plan of death and disappearance.

A Treatise on White Magic: 494

STUDY QUESTIONS

1. The soul is group consciousness. From the soul's point of view, are abortion and euthanasia valid techniques for healing? If so, what conditions or circumstances, as determined from soul-level awareness or contact, would be allowed? If not, what should replace abortion and euthanasia?

2. Why should one be concerned about health needs if death liberates the soul from the physical body? Why fight disease, if death is the inevitable outcome? "Let nature take its course, and let us abandon all cares of healing," is a voice increasing heard in this early stage of the New Age period. Please express yourself on these perplexing matters of healing and death that every aspirant of the Wisdom Teaching must confront and resolve with complete satisfaction.

3. The fundamental question is how do we live? Do we live as if the physical life is all there is and death is the ultimate end? Or do we live as if life is forever? The former approaches life as if one should experience and acquire as much as possible; the latter approaches life as if it can be transferred to another, better existence. The first leads to combativeness, the second to ignoring responsibility. Given the fact that in the mass consciousness there is no real proof, only faith in a belief of a "hereafter," how would you reconcile these two opposing views in regards to the world environmental crisis, the world at war, the right to life vs. the right of the living? Discuss any or all of these issues of our times or find another problem that you think is relevant.

4. Love of service and service of love are the two supreme as- pects of soul activity. How does the soul convey these po- tent energies to the personality? How should the person- ality prepare itself for this influx of light, of impres- sions and of creative impulse? How is service of the per- sonality affected by all of this inner activity? If appro- priate, use your own life as the example, of other persons known to you, of world leaders in human progress.

Dear Student,

You and I are currently dead to the next level of understanding, although we are aware of the present moment. So we must be pre-existent to a future of some kind; we then branch out to sense a space-time continuum. Someone asks, "Where was I before I was born?" And, "Where will I go when I die?"

These questions lead to all kinds of speculations and to many philosophical belief systems. We know, as students of esoteric healing, that the inter-relational quality of existence is of paramount importance. That all parts unite together in greater usefulness than any individual part could do on its own, is the purpose of growth. Healing is the right alignment of all the parts within the whole.

When one becomes completely group conscious, the aspirant loses sight of these questions of life and death because he is engaged in a greater occupation of thought--group thought! When the student thinks at one with the group, he is the group!

The group life continuum has no death; it lives and grows as long as there is one unit to carry on the spiritual work. If we were to take the contents of a group of minds, mix them up and put them back together as one, there would be no difference. In the world of ideas, we all unite; we share the same language, the same hope, the same need. When you and I are one and the physical form of one is gone, the life lives on in the other. The substance of the physical plane is the vessel for the life of all the higher planes. Those that are dead go to the subtle planes. The consciousness of the higher planes seeks to manifest on the lower planes, not with its personalities primarily but with its purpose.

Let progress appropriate from the pre-existence a better presence as all the past seeks to live again.

In the spirit of service,
Lynn Bright

TEXTUAL EXTRACTS

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course lies all the verities
and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth;
The glory of action;
The splendor of beauty;
For yesterday is already a dream, and
tomorrow is only a vision;
But today, well lived, makes every yesterday
A dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a
vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
From the Sanskrit

The intent is for man to die, as every man has to die, at the demand of his own soul. When man has reached a higher stage in evolution, with deliberation and definite choice of time, he will consciously withdraw from his physical body. It will be left silent and empty of the soul; devoid of light, yet sound and whole; it will then disintegrate, under the natural process, and its constituent atoms will pass back into "the pool of waiting units," until they are again required for the use of incarnating souls.
Esoteric Healing: 29

J.B. Priestley dreamed the following after helping with bird-ringing at St. Catherine'S lighthouse on the Isle of Wight:

I dreamt I was standing at the top of a very high tower, alone, looking down upon myriads of birds in the world. It was a noble sight, this vast aerial river of birds. But now in some mysterious fashion the gear was changed, and time speeded up, so that I saw generations of birds, watched them break their shells, flutter into life, weaken, falter and die. Wings grew only to crumble; bodies were sleek and then, in a flash, bled and shrivelled; and death struck everywhere and at every second. What was the use of all this blind struggle towards life, this eager trying of wings, all this gigantic meaningless biological effort? As I stared down, seeming to see every creature's ignoble little history almost at a glance, I felt sick at heart. It would be better if not one of them, not one at all, had been born, if the struggle ceased forever. I stood on my tower, still alone, desperately unhappy, but now the gear was changed again and time went faster still, and it was rushing by at such a rate, that the birds could not show any movement but were like an enormous plain sown with feathers. But along this plain, flickering through the bodies themselves, there now passed a sort of white flame, trembling, dancing, then hurrying on; and as soon as I saw it I knew this flame was life itself, the very quintessence of being; and then it came to me, in a rocket-burst of ecstasy, that nothing mattered, nothing could ever matter, because nothing else was real, but this quivering, hurrying lambency of being. Birds, men or creatures not yet shaped and coloured, all were of no account except so far as this flame of life travelled through them. It left nothing to mourn over behind it; what I had thought of as tragedy was mere emptiness of a shadow show, for now all real feeling was caught and purified and danced on ecstatically with the white flame of life. I had never felt before such deep happiness as I knew at the end of my dream of the tower and the birds...
The Opening of the Third Eye: 18, by Dr. Douglas Baker

As you well Know, the great distinction between the human kingdom in the three worlds and the other kingdoms in nature is the factor of freewill. In the matter of death, this freewill has, in the last analysis, a definite relation to the soul; the will of the soul is either consciously or unconsciously followed, where the decision of death is concerned, and this idea carries with it many implications which students would do well to ponder.

C. The soul is (and here words limit and distort) a unit of light, coloured by a particular ray vibration; it is a vibrating center of energy found within the appearance or form of its entire ray life. It is one of seven groups of millions of lives which in their totality constitute the One Life. From its very nature, the soul is conscious or aware in three directions. It is God-conscious; it is group-conscious; it is self-conscious. This self-conscious aspect is brought to fruition in the phenomenal appearance of a human being; the group-conscious aspect retains the human state of consciousness, but adds to it awareness of its ray life, progressively unfolded; its awareness then is the awareness of love, of quality, of spirit in its relationships; it is God-conscious only potentially, and in that unfoldment lies, for the soul, its own growth upward and outward after its self-conscious aspect is perfected and its group-awareness is recognised....

Immortality

Do not stand at my grave and weep...
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning's hush,
I am the swift unflinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry...
I am not there. I did not die.
